John Fury first voiced his concerns about Davison back in March 2020. That's when Tyson Fury had a tough points win over Otto Wallin. John wasn't happy with what he saw in the ring.
"Tyson's body looked weaker than before. The skill went out the window. He needs to go back to the drawing board. There is something very very wrong there."
John Fury didn't stop there. Before Tyson's second fight with Deontay Wilder, he shared more thoughts about Davison in a BT Sport Boxing feature.
"Ben's a great kid but he was a PTI instructor 12 months ago. I know the kid, but you can't expect a boy to do a man's job. He done a great job but he was only a companion for Tyson. Tyson done all that himself but with a bit of companionship, 'you can do another mile Tyson, don't eat this, don't eat that.' But when it comes to technique and knowledge, I see a lot of flaws in the work."
After that, Tyson Fury switched trainers to SugarHill Steward. The change worked out well. Tyson won both the rematch and the trilogy bout against Wilder by knockout. It's worth noting that John Fury has also criticized Steward at times.
Davison didn't let the criticism stop him. He's worked with world champions and built a talented stable of fighters.
But now, Davison is under fire again. This time it's because of Joshua's knockout loss to Dubois. People are pointing fingers at Davison's corner instructions, saying they led to the knockout.
Davison says he'll take any negativity that comes his way. He plans to review the fight footage to see what went wrong.
As for Joshua, he's sticking with Davison for now. There's talk about a rematch with Dubois, but not everyone thinks that's a good idea. The boxing world is split on whether Joshua should go for round two or move in a different direction.
