In a recent chat with Mayan Tiger Sports, Golovkin put it plainly:
"No, I am not retired."
This statement comes after buzz about a possible fight with Terence Crawford at 154 lbs, which won't be happening. Golovkin explained his current situation:
"I am enjoying my life right now, my new job, being able to spend time with my family. I am in sports and I like it. But I never announced my retirement, it's not in my nature to announce things like that."
At 42, Golovkin's taking a breather from the ring. He's got a new gig with the National Olympic Committee and is spending more time with his family. But he's not ruling out a comeback:
"Life is moments, if the opportunity arises, if something comes up, we might see Gennady Golovkin back in the ring again."
Golovkin's career is stuff of legend. He went on an unbeaten streak with 23 knockouts in a row and held multiple world titles. Fans love him for his grit, precision, and iron chin. He's never been knocked down or stopped in a fight.
His biggest rival? That'd be Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. They fought three times, with one draw and two losses for Golovkin. Many think those decisions were questionable. Their last fight was in 2022.
For now, GGG's enjoying life outside the ring. But don't count him out just yet. If the right opportunity comes knocking, we might see the fearsome middleweight lace up his gloves once more.
