Sebastian Fundora recently responded to Ryan Garcia, who had mentioned his name as a potential opponent after defeating Devin Haney. This happened while Garcia discussed future fights in an interview. He has recently won over Devin Haney by a majority decision at a junior welterweight match where he weighed over 140 pounds. After his win, he faced questions about a move to higher weight classes.
Fundora, competing in the 154-pound weight class, won against Tim Tszyu this April, securing both the WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles. Regarding Garcia's callout, Fundora gave comments to Fight Hub TV showing little concern about moving down two weight classes. He stated, "He’s not in my weight class. He’s coming up from 140; it’s like when Kell Brook fought GGG. It’s a different fight, of course, but that’s two weight classes down. We will see if he really does come up to 154. If he doesn’t, it’s all good, I don’t care."
Fundora also expressed disappointment upon hearing rumors around Garcia's failed drug tests involving performance-enhancing substances. "I hope it’s not true because that was a good win for him. But if it is, that’s very disappointing," he remarked following speculation of Garcia failing tests twice.
As Ryan Garcia explores options for climbing up to 154 pounds or potentially taking other lucrative deals, the interest around his next move grows strong among fans and fellow fighters alike. Fighters like Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr have shown interest in joining the 154-pound title challenge too.
