On July 13, Jaron 'Boots' Ennis and Cody Crowley are set to face off at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. This match features welterweight titleholder Ennis, who boasts an undefeated record, returning to his hometown to defend his title against the also undefeated Crowley. It is the first boxing match hosted at the arena.
Jaron Ennis, with a record of 31-0 including 28 KOs, hails from Germantown, Pennsylvania. He last fought Roiman Villa, knocking him out in the 10th round and successfully defending his interim title before being elevated to full champion. “I’m excited for my homecoming, especially being the first to fight at the Wells Fargo Center, the biggest arena in Philly," said Ennis. "I can’t wait to show out and put on a beautiful, dominating, crushing performance in front of my family, friends and supporters while defending and retaining my IBF world title in spectacular fashion."
Cody Crowley is a Canadian based in Las Vegas with a record of 22 wins and no losses. His most recent victory was against Abel Ramos in March 2023. Crowley shared that this fight is not only about sport but also about personal and national pride. “Ten years ago, I arrived in Las Vegas with a dream of becoming world champion," he said.
Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Boxing is promoting this event. He emphasized the importance of situating Ennis' matches in Philadelphia due to both strategic reasons and local support potential. "Jaron is the next American star in boxing," said Hearn. "July 13 is going to be a massive night; we can’t wait to come back to Philadelphia for the first of many epic nights with Boots.”
As part of their promotion strategy, they will prioritize staging more such fights featuring local talents like Ennis in Philadelphia’s context-rich sports environment.
The event will be broadcast live on DAZN.
