Haney: "I would love to give the fans a fair fight"

At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Ryan Garcia won a closely contested boxing match against Devin Haney by majority decision. The fight, fraught with controversy due to Garcia's weight issue, ended with no rematch in sight as per promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

During the bout, Garcia knocked down Haney three times and weighed in at 143.2 lbs, over the limit by 3.2 lbs. Even though Garcia won, Haney retained his title by default. Additionally, Garcia was penalized $1.5 million for the weight violation.

After the match, Devin Haney took to Instagram to acknowledge Garcia's victory but hinted that the weight discrepancy had affected the fight's outcome. He expressed a desire for a fair rematch within an agreed weight limit. His quotes included praises for Garcia's performance underlining a keenness on giving fans what they deserved, "a FAIR fight." Meanwhile, Ryan agreed immediately after the fight to a rematch suggesting his willingness to clear any doubts about his victory.

Oscar De La Hoya rejected any possibility of a rematch

However, García's promoter Oscar De La Hoya rejected any possibility of a rematch. He stated on Haney’s Instagram post that Ryan would be moving forward without revisiting this matchup. His direct quote was "Good luck with Eddie [Hearn], but there will not be a rematch," indicating a definitive closure on discussions concerning another fight between Haney and García under their current promotion terms.
