Chisora, a long-time friend and former gymmate of Joshua, expressed his thoughts ahead of the upcoming undisputed title fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury on May 18 in Saudi Arabia. He has previously fought both Usyk and Fury, which positions him uniquely to comment on their fighting styles compared to Joshua's. “I do feel like British fighters tend to work better on home soil with British trainers, it’s a different fight style," said Chisora. He explained that just like an American might struggle with making a traditional British Sunday roast, James struggled to effectively train Joshua within the nuances of British boxing.
Currently, Anthony Joshua shows promising performance under Ben Davison after parting ways with James. His future looks bright as he anticipates more successes under either Davison or potentially another new trainer.
Derrick James' approach while working with Joshua appears less effective compared to local training methodologies preferred by British fighters such as Chisora and Joshua.
