Mendes explained why he didn't want to train Velasquez

American trainer Javier Mendez admitted that he did not want to accept the AKA famous heavyweight into his gym Cain Velasquez before meeting him.

“I remember our first meeting with Kane. I think it was 2006. His manager said he has an amazing heavyweight with great stamina that I would like. And I replied: “Great.”

As soon as the manager told me that he was Mexican, I lost interest, thinking: “He must be a fat Mexican, a good fighter, but too heavy, overweight.” I’ve never seen a fit Mexican heavyweight,” Mendez said in an interview with the Red Corner MMA YouTube channel.

Let us remember that Velasquez is a former UFC heavyweight champion. The American with Mexican roots hung up his gloves in 2019.
