Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker apologized to the lightweight belt holder Islam Makhachev for his words after the Dagestani fight with Alexander Volkanovski.

Earlier, the Australian commented on the past fight, focusing on the poor form of his compatriot, who took the fight on short notice.

“I apologize for underestimating Makhachev’s merits in how he beat Volkanovski. This was not what I wanted to do, even if it sounded like it. I am not belittling the merits of Islam. He dealt with the guy who gave him a lot of trouble in the first battle. Adapted to the change of opponent. What he did that night was incredible,” Whittaker said on the MMArcade podcast.

Let us remind you that on October 21 at the UFC 294 tournament, Makhachev knocked out Volkanovski in the first round.
