American coach Ray Longo believes that the leadership of the UFC should arrange a farewell fight for his ward Chris Weidmanfor the former middleweight champion to leave the organization with his head held high.

“Now Chris needs to make some decisions. I think he wants to end his career after winning. I think it will be fair. Just give him this opportunity. Chris defeated the best fighter of all time twice and has always been a man of the company.

He had some outstanding fights such as against Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort. He appeared at the right time and overthrew Anderson Silva, who was at the top of the whole world, from the throne. I think Chris is a Hall of Famer and I hope he will be treated accordingly. A farewell fight would make Chris happy,” Longo said in an interview with Anik & Florian Podcast.

Recall that on August 19 at UFC 292, Weidman returned to the octagon after a broken leg and a two-year rehabilitation, losing by unanimous decision to Brad Tavares. After the fight, promotion head Dana White urged the 39-year-old veteran to hang up his gloves.
