According to American columnist Dan Rafael, the teams Jaya Opetai (22-0, 17 KOs) and Mairis Briedis (28-2, 20 KOs) appealed to the IBF with a request to cancel the promotional bidding for the choice of the organizer of the fight for the world heavyweight title, scheduled for August 22.
This most likely means that negotiations for the duel are close to completion and should be officially announced soon.
Briedis was made mandatory after Mateusz Masternak and then Richard Riakpo pulled out of a potential fight with Opetaya.
