Saul Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) wants to take revenge on the WBA light heavyweight champion in his next fight in September Dmitry Bivol. However, it is unclear how Alvarez, who will soon turn 33, will pursue his career after that. The undisputed super middleweight champion has a number of opponents urging him to defend his crown against them.

The leading list of these names includes David Benavidez, Jermall Charlo, David Morrell and Demetrius Andreid, all of whom are associated with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions.

The new name in the super middleweight division is Jaime Munguia (41-0, 33 KOs), a 26-year-old Tijuana native who will take on Sergey Derevyanchenko on June 10 in Ontario, California at the DAZN event.

Former Alvarez promoter Oscar De La Hoya believes that he has a future worthy opponent in his stable in Munguia. In an interview with BoxingScene.com, De La Hoya promised that he would arrange a Mexican derby "in a split second."

“The only problem is that Canelo doesn’t want to fight other Mexican fighters, which is pretty absurd,” De La Hoya said. - Because if you are a fighter, you are a fighter. You fight with anyone who is at the top. You fight with anyone who stands in your way and is going to give you a serious fight. Munguia has been knocking on his door for a long time. If I have to put pressure on these guys to fight Munguia, then I will. We will go down the path of mandatory defense and beat the guys that Canelo has already beaten in order to get a fight with the same Canelo. We have different ways. They can run, but they cannot hide. We will keep pushing and knocking on his door.”

De La Hoya joked that if for this they had to make Munguya a Spanish citizen and give him a Spanish passport, then he was ready to do it, just to make Alvarez fight.

"For what it's worth, Jaime Munguia wants big fights," De La Hoya said.

“I firmly believe that a purely Mexican duel between Alvarez and Munguia is inevitable. There have been no confrontations between two Mexican warriors in boxing lately. The fight between Alvarez and Munguia must take place in the near future to keep Mexican boxing alive, prosperous and greater than ever. We must show the fans that Mexican boxing is the best. Canelo vs Jaime - I think in the near future this fight will take place, ”added De La Hoya.
