Rodriguez wins WBO title

Jessie Rodriguez (18-0, 11 KOs) won Christian Gonzalez (15-2, 5 KOs) by unanimous decision in the main event of the evening in San Antonio and became the owner of the vacant WBO flyweight title, as well as the youngest world champion in two weight categories.

After twelve rounds, the judges gave the victory to the 23-year-old athlete with a score of 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110. After the final gong, Rodriguez was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken jaw.

Also as part of the boxing evening in Texas Murodjon Akhmadaliyev (11-1, 8 KOs) lost by split decision Marlon Tapales (37-3, 19 KOs) and lost his IBF and WBA super bantamweight belts. After the final gong, the judges gave 118-110 to the Uzbek and twice 115-113 to the Filipino.
