Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) defeated Shuichiro Yoshino (16-1, 12 KOs) by TKO in the sixth round in the main event of the boxing evening in Newark. It was the debut of the former world featherweight and super featherweight champion in the lightweight division.
The American dominated his opponent in speed and technique, and was able to knock him down in the second round with a left hand. In the fourth round, the Japanese was again counted out, this time after a right hook. As a result, the fight was stopped after the left side of the American boxer. The fight was a qualifying match according to the WBC in the weight category up to 61 kg.
On the same evening, heavyweight Jared Anderson (14-0, 14 KOs) stopped George Arias (18-1, 7 KOs) by TKO in the third round. At stake were the US WBC belts and the WBO intercontinental title.
