Negotiations are underway to conclude a contract for a fight between the former world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) and Jaime Munguia (41-0, 33 KOs), former world welterweight champion. The fight may take place in June in the United States. Recently, information has also appeared about Mungia's negotiations with Dmitry Bivol.
Golovkin has not boxed since September last year, and in recent weeks has left the IBF and WBA belts vacant in the weight category up to 72.5 kg. A boxer from Kazakhstan refused titles due to mandatory defenses against applicants appointed by the federations.
After last year's duel with Saul Alvarez, GGG's contract with the DAZN streaming service ended. The last time Munguia fought was in November, defeating Gonzalo Coria ahead of schedule.
