The first part of the fight was an equal fight, but in the later rounds, Benavidez's pressure paid off, and in the end, the Mexican won with a score of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
On the undercard, welterweight boxer Jesus Ramos (20-0, 16 KOs) stopped Joey Spencer (16-1, 10 KOs) in the seventh round.
