Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) left the WBA middleweight title vacant. A boxer from Kazakhstan refused to fight with Erislandy Laroy, the owner of the regular belt of the World Boxing Association in the same weight category.
The Cuban will now receive the status of a full WBA champion in the limit up to 72.5 kg. Lara, 39, last fought in May last year, defeating Gary O'Sullivan. Lara in the next performance in the ring can cross gloves with Danny Garcia.
It is not yet known when and in what weight category Golovkin will return to the ring. "GGG" hasn't boxed since last year's loss to Saul Alvarez. After this performance, the boxer's contract with DAZN ended. Golovkin also recently vacated the IBF world title.
