Hearn wants Benn to fight in June

Promoter Eddie Hearn is working to win back a doping victim Conor Benn combat relevance. In a recent interview, the head of Matchroom Boxing talked about his welterweight coach's next steps, suggesting a scenario where Benn could fight as early as June, possibly outside of his native UK.

Last week, Benn learned the news that the World Boxing Council had closed an investigation into two of his failed doping tests, saying Benn tested positive for clomiphene because he "ate too many eggs." Clomiphene is a fertility drug that increases testosterone levels in men and also helps to lose weight. As a result, Benn was reinstated to the WBC welterweight rankings. Benn hasn't fought since he won by stoppage last April Chris Van Heerden in the second round.

Benn, however, is still under investigation by the British Boxing Commission and the UK Anti-Doping Service, and their decision could affect whether Benn can box in his country. Benn gave up his license in the UK at the end of October.

Hearn, who has repeatedly spoken out in support of his boxer, suggested that he was ready to force Benn to fight on foreign territory in case he could not get a British license.

"In terms of boxing, we can make a decision and apply for a license for Conor Benn's next fight," Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show. “It could be Nevada, it could be New York, it could be the UK, it could be an international license. Ultimately, we want to get him back in the ring, probably in June."
