WBO appoints Smith-Alimkhanuly fight

Liam Smith

Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20 KOs) named official contender for the WBO middleweight title held by Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (13-0, 8 KOs). Representatives of the boxers have until March 14 to agree on this fight. The promotional auction date will be set later.

In his last appearance in the ring, Smith knocked out Chris Eubank Jr., who activated a rematch clause obliging Smith to fight a second fight. This fight is scheduled for the second half of May.

Alimkhanuly has been the owner of the WBO belt since May last year. An athlete from Kazakhstan boxed for the last time in November.
