WBC orders Spence to make mandatory defense against Thurman

Sanctioning boxing organizations have always been famous for strange decisions. This time, the World Boxing Council (WBC) distinguished itself, which, with its latest decision, obliged Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) to make a mandatory defense of his welterweight title with Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs). Recall that five days ago there was information that Spence and Thurman agreed on a non-title fight in the first middleweight division.

The situation does not look too strange at first glance, but as reported by BoxingNews24, the WBC has decided to evaluate a non-title ranked fight in the super middleweight division as a mandatory defense in the welterweight division.
