Undefeated longtime welterweight contender Jaron "Boots" Ennis (30-0, 27 KOs) finally got his first world title by beating #4 IBF Karen Chukhadzhyan (21-2, 11 KOs) by unanimous decision and becoming the owner of the vacant IBF temporary belt as part of the Saturday evening of boxing in Washington, DC, on the Davis-Garcia undercard.
The fight turned out to be very unspectacular, largely due to Chukhadzhyan's too obvious manner of working as number two. As a result of twelve rounds, all the judges gave all the rounds to the American: 120-108. For Ennis, it was the first fight since 2017 to go the full distance and his first full 12 rounds of his career.
"He ran a lot," Ennis said after the fight. “I take my hat off to him, as many guys didn’t want to fight me. So thank him for coming here and taking the fight... Everyone knows that I want to fight Spence. I will wait until my time comes and Spence is ready to take this fight."
