WBC on situation with vacant bridgeweight title

World Boxing Council decides to take action after injury Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs), the first and so far the only champion in the new bridge category (101.6 kg). The title is currently declared vacant, and theoretically they can compete for it Lukasz Ruzhansky (14-0, 13 KOs), Riad Merhi (31-1, 26 KOs) and Alain Babich (11-0, 10 KOs).

“Oscar Rivas has a retinal detachment. His future in the sport is unclear. Therefore, we will hold a series of fights for the vacant bridge title and mandatory defenses for the new champion,” the WBC said in a statement.
