At the end of 2022, information appeared that the WBC world champion in the bridge category Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs) was injured and his future career is in doubt. Although the Colombian later stated that he would make a decision about his sports future only after consulting a doctor, the leader of the rating Alain Babich (11-0, 10 KOs) wants to be ready for any scenario.

A post from the training camp of a Croatian appeared on the Matchroom Boxing Twitter account with the comment: “The chance of a WBC champion in the bridger weight. Alain Babich is training and ready.” The boxer added on his Instagram that he would soon have the most important fight of his career.

At a recent World Boxing Council congress, it was decided that Babić will face Riad Meri (31-1, 26 KOs) in an eliminator, and Rivas will make a voluntary title defense against Lukasz Ruzhansky (14-0, 13 KOs).
