Details are still being finalized, but several media outlets report that the former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa is currently behind bars in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on the night of December 31 in Santiago de Cuba in Cuba. Sources close to the situation report that the Olympic champion allegedly ran into a pedestrian on a section of the road without lighting. Gamboa was not intoxicated, and the situation is just a tragic accident.
“Legal steps are already being taken to help Gamboa, although many details remain to be clarified,” El Nuevo Herald quoted a source as saying. - We want to clarify that Gamboa was not under the influence of alcohol or any other prohibited substances. Gamboa is a very religious person and doesn't drink alcohol or anything like that."
Gamboa, 41, has not entered the ring since losing to Isaac Cruz on April 16 last year.
