The black series in boxing continues. Within three weeks, the third well-known and respected referee died. First, the media reported the deaths of Mills Lane and Steve Smoger, who were great figures and one of the most prominent "third men in the ring". Today, the sad news came of the death of 81-year-old Jerry Roth, who, in turn, was one of the most famous judges. The news of his death was confirmed by his daughter.

Roth has refereeed 225 fights with a world title on the line. These were fights like Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II, Larry Holmes vs. Jerry Cooney, Thomas Hearns vs. "Sugar" Ray Leonard, and Floyd Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya. He also judged the entire Riddick Bowie trilogy with Evander Holyfield.
