Devin Haney never hid that he is not a special fan of boxing talent Teofimo Lopez. But, despite their certain enmity, Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) always highly appreciated the achievements and technique of a potential enemy. However, after an unfortunate defeat by George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021, Haney believes that Lopez is somewhat "addicted". Confirming Haney's point, Lopez (18-1, 13 KOs) looked rather unconvincing in his last fight against Sandor Martin a few weeks ago.
Despite the victory, Haney, the undisputed champion at 61 kg, believes that something is wrong with Lopez. Haney's opinion on the matter apparently grew even more when ESPN cameras caught footage of Lopez asking his team if they had any reason to hope to win immediately after the fight with Martin.
When Lopez's words began to be widely discussed, the former unified champion hastened to refute his disbelief in his own strength. Instead, Lopez said that his words were far from sincere and that he specifically asked such a question so that the boxing world would talk about him even more.
Haney laughed when asked if he believed Lopez. After Haney fought two victorious fights against Kambosos, he got the impression that Lopez is now going through a difficult period in his life. Instead of criticizing his longtime rival, Haney decided to give Lopez a little advice.
After a controversial victory over Martin, Lopez now holds first place in the WBC rankings in the weight category up to 63 kg. Lopez could face Regis Prograis in his next fight, but Haney advises him to rest and relax instead.
"Everyone knows it's a lie," Haney said during an interview with Thaboxingvoice when asked if he believed Lopez specifically asked his team the aforementioned question. “He began to doubt himself, so I think he needs to take a break from sports, clean himself up and then come back.”
