Former UFC middleweight contender Paulo Costa confirmed that he refused to renew his contract with the promotion due to poor financial conditions.
According to the Brazilian, he was offered only $70 thousand for the fight with the ex-champion Robert Whittaker, which was supposed to take place on February 12 in Perth, Australia.
“I said that I want new conditions for the fight with Whittaker. I will not fight him for the same money as this is a big event in Australia. This is a good fight, so 70 thousand is too little. I asked them to increase the fee a little, but was refused.
They said that we need to make a new agreement for six fights. I answered: “No, what six fights? I'm talking about the Whittaker fight, not six fights. It doesn't make sense." I made this mistake in 2017 and I am still paying for it,” the Brazilian said on The MMA Hour.
