Absolute world champion in super middleweight Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) confirmed that he would have his next professional fight on May 6, but said that his closest opponent would not be Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs). The rematch between Canelo and the Russian should take place next September.

It is not yet known who will be the next rival of the Mexican. Some of the names featured in the media include former world middleweight champion Demetrius Andrejd and John Ryder, who will soon battle for the interim WBO 76kg world title.

Alvarez won on points against Gennady Golovkin in his last professional appearance. After this fight, the Mexican underwent surgery on his left hand. Rehab is proceeding without complications, and Canelo should return to training in a few weeks.
