Rogan calls for change to MMA scoring system

Joe Rogan, longtime UFC commentator, has criticized the promotion's scoring system. In his opinion, the organization needs to move away from the boxing system 10-9.

“There are several problems in this direction, but I believe that the main problem lies in these numbers 10-9. We are limited to a 10 point scoring system. In one case, someone can win the round with a score of 10-9 and it will be a very close round, and in the other case, the guy clearly takes the five-minute, but still gets a score of 10-9. It doesn't make any sense to me. The system is designed for boxing and is ideal for this sport, but I don't think it's good for MMA. MMA needs a much more complex system. If a guy controls you on the ground but doesn't deal any damage, and otherwise holds you but deals damage, so what's more important? What is worth more, landing three or four clean hits or controlling an opponent on the ground? I think we need a more comprehensive scoring system that is not tied to 10 points. We just adopted the boxing system."
