WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight champion Claressa "GWOAT" Shields (13-0, 2 KOs) once again became the absolute champion in the weight category up to 72 kg, having won by unanimous decision after ten rounds over the WBO title holder Savannah "The Silent Assassin" Marshall (12-1, 10 KOs) in Saturday night's main event at the O2 Arena in London.
Shields, a two-time Olympic champion, kept the hard-hitting Marshall from imposing her game with multiple punches. As the fight progressed, Marshall tried to increase the pressure and often pushed Shields into the ropes as the fight progressed. Judging scores: 96-94 and twice 97-93.
Marshall inflicted Shields her only amateur loss in 2012. This was the only time that Shields was defeated as a professional or an amateur, but in the end, the British could not repeat hers even with the support of her native stands.
Also on this big women's evening in the fight for the unification of champion titles in the second featherweight champion of the WBC Alicia Baumgardner (12-1, 7 KOs) took the IBF and WBO belts from Mikaela Mayer (17-0, 5 KOs), winning a split decision in ten rounds. The duel took place in a close and stubborn struggle. Baumgardner almost doubled her opponent in accurate power shots and won on two judges' cards 96-95, 96-95, while the third judge saw Mayer lead with a score of 97-93.
