Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Coach John Jones Brandon Gibson speculates on the subject of a possible duel between his ward and the title holder in the welterweight division Israel Adesanya.
“I would love to watch this fight. I'm sure they will sell a lot of PPV. It would be an interesting fight for Jones. He would have made this fight messy and broken his face worse than Brandon Vera.
Jones will be able to fight him on the stand. He fought the best strikers in the history of the sport: Gustafsson, Machida, Shogun and Jackson. He is capable of standing up against any opponent,” Gibson said on the Submission Radio podcast.
Jones has not competed since February 2020, when he defeated Dominic Reyes via unanimous decision. Later, the American left the belt vacant due to disagreements with the promotion and announced the transition to heavyweight.
