WBA regular heavyweight belt holder Daniel Dubois (18-1, 17 KOs) sued Don King, who owes him a large sum of money.
King won promoter bid to fight Dubois, then WBA "interim" champion, with his boxer Trevor Bryan (22-1, 15 KOs), at that time the "regular" champion. The once-famous promoter offered over $3 million in the tender—$3,116,001 to be exact. The money was to be split 55/45 in favor of the "regular" champion. Thus, Brian's account should have received $1,713,800.55 and Dubois's account should have received $1,402,200.45. After calculating all the interest, Dubois should have received half a million - 463,274.32 dollars.
Dynamite flew to Miami, beat the opponent in three rounds and knocked him out in the fourth. Dubois, as a result of the fight, became the owner of the regular WBA belt, but not money. So yesterday, Dubois filed a lawsuit against Don King Productions in Broward County, Florida District Court. The Briton is represented by well-known lawyer Leon Margules.
At the moment, Dubois has not received a single cent from Don King Productions for the fight. Before the lawsuit was filed in court, the Florida State Athletic Commission and the WBA leadership were informed of the incident.
