Gonzalez wants rematch with Dogboy
"It was a great, competitive fight," said Frank Espinoza, featherweight manager Joet Gonzalezdiscussing his boxing match with the former world champion Isaac Dogboy. Dogboye won a split decision against Gonzalez in a 10-round WBC eliminator last Saturday.
“Joe has done a great job. He attacked the corps and acted very effectively. Dogboy is a damn good fighter and he had his moments, but in the end I thought Joet was better," Espinoza added.
“Joeth did his job and it was a close fight. Dogboy used to be a champion for a reason. He is a talented boxer,” Espinoza continued. "It was one of the closest fights I've ever seen and if you talk to different people in the media you get different opinions about who won."
The score of the fight was close, with Dogboye winning on the two official cards 96-94, while Gonzalez won against the third judge, also 96-94. ESPN commentators scored the fight a 95-95 draw.
“It was a tough fight, interesting for the fans. Very intriguing. But let's admit that we didn't have a clear winner," Espinosa said. - I think that the fans will benefit greatly from their rematch. It was a WBC elimination match and the chance to get a title shot for these guys is once in a lifetime. They both deserve a clear decision."
According to ESPN's hitting statistics, Gonzalez was the better hitter, with Gonzalez landing 197 to Dogboye's 190. Gonzalez himself also stated after the fight that he believes he won the fight.
“I have a lot of respect for Dogboy, he is a great fighter, but I feel like I did more than enough to win. I am very unhappy with this decision,” Gonzalez said. - I absolutely 100 percent want revenge. It was too close a fight. If I lost, I should feel like I lost, but this time I don't feel like I lost."
Espinoza said he would seek revenge from the WBC.

"Of course. Boxing fans and fighters deserve a second part of Gonzalez vs. Dogboy,” said the manager. “These guys’ careers are on the line. So in the rematch you will see an even more interesting fight. They know what's at stake. This is their future and the future of their families. These guys have a lot of pride and they crave greatness. This is one of those revenges that will become a real war. As the ESPN commentators said, it was a special fight. And special fights deserve a rematch.”
