Eddie Hearn won the right to host a qualifying bout for the WBC light heavyweight title between Callum Smith (28-1, 20 KOs) and Mathieu Boderlikom (21-1, 12 KOs). The winning bid was one million dollars.
The fight will most likely take place on August 20 in Saudi Arabia. The winner will be the mandatory opponent of Artur Beterbiev, who has held the World Boxing Council belt for nearly three years now.
In the past, Smith has held the WBC and WBA super middleweight championship belts. The 32-year-old Briton made his debut in the new weight category in September, winning ahead of schedule against Lenin Castillo. Boderlik has been European champion since September last year.
