Callum Smith (28-1, 20 KOs) and Mathieu Boderlic (21-1, 12 KOs) were appointed contenders to participate in the qualifying fight for the WBC world light heavyweight title. Teams of boxers have begun negotiations on the organization of the fight, which will take place in the summer.
The Briton has held the WBC and WBA super middleweight titles in the past. In the new weight category, 32-year-old Smith made his debut in September, winning ahead of schedule against Lenin Castillo.
Boderlik has been the European champion since September last year. The winner of this fight will become the mandatory contender for Artur Beterbiev, who has been the holder of the World Boxing Council belt for almost three years now.
