The presidents of the WBO and WBC stated that Saul Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) will not lose his super middleweight championship belt despite his recent loss to Dmitry Bivol. At the same time, both organizations are aware that Canelo will be able to perform at 76 kilograms no earlier than in a year.
Last year, the Mexican boxer unified all major titles in the super middleweight division, but fought Bivol in the light heavyweight division. If it comes to their revenge in the fall, then it will probably also take place at 79 kg.
Alvarez also holds the IBF and WBA championship belts. Canelo is unlikely to go for a mandatory defense if any organization names him an official challenger. Later this month, the Mexican must make a decision about his next appearance in the ring.
