In February, the WBA appointed Robert Helenius (31-3, 20 KOs) and Hughie Fury (26-3, 15 KOs) by the participants in the qualifying match for the title of world heavyweight champion. However, the Finn did not accept the WBA invitation and was replaced by Michael Hunter.
The duel between Helenius and Fury was supposed to take place no later than July 28, and the negotiations were supposed to end in April. Fury's promoter Ben Shalom said the parties failed to reach an agreement.
The last time the 38-year-old Helenius boxed was in October, when he defeated Adam Kownatsky for the second time. It is not yet known when the Northern Nightmare will return to the ring.
