The promotional organization Triller Fight Club will not receive a refund from the IBF for the deposit that was made to the organization of the fight between George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) and Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs). Thriller will lose, thus, 1.2 million dollars.
In February last year, Thriller won a bid to host the Australian-American fight for over $6 million. In accordance with IBF rules, 20% of the winning bet was given to the organization as a non-refundable deposit.
After many changes to the date of the fight, Thriller finally lost the right to organize the fight, which later went to Matchroom Boxing. Representatives of the American promotional company immediately demanded the return of the deposit, but their request was not granted.
The IBF decision means that Lopez will receive an additional $900,000 for last year's loss, and an additional $300,000 will be credited to Kambosos' bank account.
