In a recent interview, promoter Frank Warren, who is handling Joyce's career, suggested the idea of pitting his boxer against Joshua. In September last year, Joshua lost to Oleksandr Usyk and lost his WBO, IBF and WBA titles.
Joshua took advantage of the immediate revenge clause, but the second meeting is now in limbo as Usyk is in his home country, which is being invaded by Russian occupying forces. In order not to waste time, Joshua may now have an interim fight. Joshua responded to the offer to fight Joyce by promising everyone on social media to end Joyce's unbeaten streak in one round.
“I stood with Joe in sparring and stopped him in the first round. I would do the same today! Nothing has changed since then,” Joshua said.
It's been almost a week since the announcement, and Joyce finally took to social media to give her answer: "Anthony Joshua, are you in trouble? Where are all your belts? Does sponsorship and advertising money help? You're a glass cannon, stop pretending, you've been offered everything."
To which Joshua replied: "It took you 5 days to come up with this..."
In his last fight in July 2021, Joyce scored a stoppage victory over veteran Carlos Takam in the sixth round.
