On April 30, Top Rank in Las Vegas will host a featherweight unification bout between Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs) and Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs). The American is the WBO world champion, and the Mexican is the WBC title holder.
The day before, future opponents in the ring met face to face at a press conference and exchanged not very pleasant courtesies. “This is a fight between two fighters at their best, best against best,” said Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. “Oscar and Shakur deserve the biggest arena. On April 30, a new superstar will be born."
Stevenson is currently the 5-to-1 favorite for the fight. Valdez will be the underdog for only the second time in his career. For the first time, he was until a crushing early victory over Miguel Berchelt.
