Former world champion in four weight classes Roman Gonzalez (51-3, 41 KOs) scored a landslide victory over the reigning WBC world flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez (18-2, 14 KOs) in a bantamweight bout on Saturday at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
Opponents often entered into exchanges. Martínez attacked aggressively while Chocolatito was able to insert on accent shots and land them more accurately. Gonzalez began to dominate in the middle of the fight and punish Martinez. Chocolatito showed great technique by outboxing the usually hyper-aggressive Martinez. After twelve rounds, the judges scored 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112.
