It was officially confirmed that on April 9 at the boxing evening in Saitama there will be a unification fight for the WBA and IBF middleweight belts between Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and Ryota Murata (16-2, 13 KOs). The fight was supposed to take place in December, but the event was postponed due to the closure of the borders by the Japanese authorities.
Golovkin has already started training camp and is due to arrive in Japan in mid-March because his entire staff is to be quarantined. If the boxer from Kazakhstan wins, then in September he will have a third fight with Saul Alvarez.
GGG in his previous fight in December 2020 won ahead of schedule against Kamil Sheremeta. Murata last boxed in December 2019, when he beat Steven Butler ahead of schedule.
