WBA heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan (22-0, 15 KOs) scored a harder-than-expected split decision win against WBA No. 13 Jonathan Guidry (17-1-2, 10 KOs) at the WD Packard Concert Hall in Warren, Ohio.

The much larger Bryan went forward and Guidry often acted on the waste, but throughout the fight he often entered into exchanges of blows. Brian finally managed to send Guidry to the floor in the final seconds of the fight. Judges' notes: 118-109, 116-111 in favor of Brian, and 115-112 in favor of Guidry.

“Trevor Bryan is serious and for a long time,” Bryan said after the fight. “I proved it tonight. I will only improve and continue to improve my skills. I worked until the last gong. I'm going to show my talents abroad. I'm going to fight against the top three, namely Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. I deserve these fights. It was the next step for me. Say hello to Jonathan Guidry. He was a strong contender."
