Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are close to signing a contract for what on paper looks like the biggest women's boxing fight in history. The working date of this meeting is April 30, and it can take place at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York. Serrano, a seven-division world champion and reigning featherweight champion, will challenge Taylor for the undisputed title and WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight titles. This will be the first time in history that a women's bout will be the main event of a boxing evening at the MSG Arena.
As part of this event, at least two more women's title fights are considered, and bets in them can be both several titles at once and the title of the absolute champion. It is expected that all details will be confirmed once Taylor and Serrano have finalized the fight and the evening can be officially announced.
This women's superfight was originally scheduled to take place in May 2020 in England, but was canceled due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. Attempts to reschedule the fight led to a public dispute between Serrano's team and Taylor's longtime promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, and Taylor and Serrano parted ways.
Negotiations resumed in late 2021, shortly after Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KOs), the only Puerto Rican to ever win titles in five or more weight divisions, became a free agent and brought Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) of Jake Paul to her team as manager. Since then, Matchroom and MVP have been working hard to secure a deal that is nearing completion and promises to bring seven figures to both fighters' accounts.
