Unification fight for the WBA and IBF middleweight belts between Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and Ryota Murata (16-2, 3 KOs) will probably take place in April in Saitama, Japan. The fight was supposed to take place in December, but the evening was postponed due to the closure of the borders by the Japanese authorities.

Murata's promoters have already sent a request from the Japan Boxing Commission to approve the fight in April. Golovkin accepted this deadline and agreed to reduce the size of his camp to 11 people. After arriving in Japan, GGG will also be placed under quarantine.

Attempts to hold this duel have been made for several months. During this time, the boxer from Kazakhstan also had to revise his contract with the DAZN platform and reduce purses for the following performances.

GGG in his previous fight, in December 2020, stopped Kamil Szeremeta. Murata last entered the ring in December 2019, when he beat Stephen Butler.
