Former five division champion Floyd Mayweather ready to help Anthony Joshua to prepare for his upcoming rematch with the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk. In September, Usyk defeated Joshua and won three championship belts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
After his second loss in his career, many boxing analysts urged Joshua to part ways with his longtime head coach Rob McCracken. Joshua traveled to the United States a few months ago and was spotted in the company of several high-profile trainers in their boxing gyms. Floyd Mayweather is friends with Joshua and wants to help him get ready at his Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas.
“I told him to come from the very beginning. I could teach him some things. In most cases, this is just my opinion. The same coach who trained you as an amateur doesn't always make you a great professional,” Mayweather said.
“Some guys are great as amateur coaches, some are great in professional boxing. My father was the best professionally. In amateurs, he taught me as a professional, so I always say what is, whether people like it or not."
“I understand Anthony Joshua, he goes to different coaches and they tell him: 'This coach will work with you.' But I told him at the very beginning, when he was still undefeated: "You have things to adjust, because if you don't, you might lose."
Joshua has already exercised his contractual right to an immediate rematch. The second fight with Usyk is likely to take place in the first quarter of 2022.
