Former two-time world super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (34-2-2, 25 KOs) knocked out Marcos Hernandez (15-5-2, 3 KOs) in the fourth round on the undercard of the Las Vegas boxing night that featured Saul Alvarez vs Robert Plante in the main event. Dirrell's right uppercut, which sent Hernandez into a deep knockout, decided the outcome of the fight. The fight's stoppage time was 0:44.
Also that night, Dominican super lightweight Elvis Rodriguez (12-1-1, 11 KOs) scored an early fifth-round victory over previously undefeated Juan Pablo Romero (14-1, 9 KOs). In the fourth round, Rodriguez was able to land a left jab that clearly shook Romero. The ensuing series of punches sent Romero to the ring floor. In the fifth round, a short left jab from Rodriguez sent Romero to the floor for the second time. The referee, after counting to ten, stopped the fight at 2:59.
Former super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas (35-0, 22 KOs) made his featherweight debut with a solid win over the ambitious Leonardo Baez (21-5, 12 KOs). The scores were 99-91 and twice 100-90.
