By defeating Ryan Rozicki on points Friday, Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs) became the first-ever WBC champion in the briefer weight class. Under WBC rules, the Colombian must now make two mandatory title defenses. The first candidate to fight Rivas is Russian Evgeny Romanov (16-0, 11 KOs).
"We're looking at different options. We recently received one offer for a featherweight bout. We will choose the best path for Oscar and we will do everything to make sure the next bout takes place in Quebec," said the champion's promoter Yvon Michel.
If Oscar Rivas decides to defend his belt against Romanov and the duel takes place, his winner will have to cross gloves with second mandatory challenger Lukasz Ruzanski (14-0, 13 KOs) in their next meeting.
