Oscar Rivas becomes the first ever WBC Bridgerweight Champion

Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs) became the first ever WBC Bridgerweight champion by defeating Ryan Rozicki (13-0, 13 KOs) in Montreal, Canada.

The bout between the Colombian from Canada and the boxer who replaced Bryant Jennings was much more hard fought than one would expect. Rivas dominated most of the rounds but Rozicki drew blood at several points and eventually the judges called it 116-111, 115-112 and 115-112 in favor of Oscar Rivas.

According to WBC rules, a vacant titleholder must make two consecutive mandatory defenses against official challengers, and currently they are Evgeny Romanov (16-0, 11 KOs) and Lukasz Różanski (14-0, 13 KOs).
