Sydney Sweeney has transformed her body to play boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
The first official image from the movie shows Sweeney in the boxing ring, capturing an action-packed moment. Director David Michod, known for "War Machine" and "The King," aims to give a gritty and authentic look at Martin's rise in the male-dominated world of boxing.
Sweeney didn't just act in the film - she also produced it. To prepare for the role, she gained over 30 pounds and trained intensively for three-and-a-half months. Her daily routine included morning weight training, midday kickboxing, and more weight training at night.
"My body was completely different. I loved it," Sweeney said. "I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy!"
The actress found herself surprisingly strong after the transformation. This experience gave her a new appreciation for the physical demands placed on professional athletes.
The biopic focuses on Christy Martin's career and her contributions to boxing. Martin is considered one of the most iconic female fighters in the sport. Her story touches on themes of perseverance, resilience, and breaking barriers in the face of adversity.
Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Ethan Embry join Sweeney in the supporting cast. For Sweeney, this role offers a chance to show her range as an actress and cement her status as a rising power in Hollywood.
Fans won't have to wait long to see more of Sweeney on screen. She stars in two other films, "Americana" and "Eden," both set to release on August 22.
