Frank Warren, promoter of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs), believes Anthony Joshua (24-2-1, 21 KOs) should take a break from boxing and not take a rematch with the Ukrainian yet after losing to Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs). Such a scenario would allow for an outright title fight between Fury and Usyk.
"He shouldn't have insisted on a rematch. But it's his choice," Warren told Sky Sports. According to the British promoter, AJ should step aside and let Fury fight Usyk.
"Let AJ have some sort of interim fight before his second fight with Usyk and restore a winner's mentality. And then he could fight the best of the Fury-Usyk pairing, it would still be a great duel," says the head of Queensberry Promotions.
Frank Warren's idea, however, has almost no chance of coming true, because both Joshua and Eddie Hearn, his promoter, announced immediately after his loss to Usyk that they would demand a rematch clause.
